Stop and Go Light Bulbs

This article is about Stop and Go light bulbs. We have all seen road works where one of the lanes is closed (usually an opposite lane) and cars from each lane have to take turns in driving past because there is only one lane instead of two (no opposite lane). An individual with a stop/go sign stops cars or let the cars drive past to avoid car moving in the opposite direction from approaching each other and thus blocking the road.

This article shows how you can replace this traffic sign person with a light bulb or LED signaling.

You can see on the picture that there is one road (marked with masking tape) and imaging that at both ends of the cardboard there are two lanes ending where cars were moving in the opposite direction to each other before the roadblock. One light bulb says go while other (on the opposite side) signals stop. You can see the operation of my circuit in this video:

Step 1: Design the Circuit

I have drawn the circuit via Easy Eda software (https://easyeda.com):

This circuit is not the only way to solve this problem. You can simply connect two light bulbs in parallel with one light bulb pin to the negative battery terminal and the second light bulb pin to the single pole double throw (SPDT) switch.

Step 2: Make the Circuit

I made the circuit on a piece of cardboard that was more appropriate than a matrix board because I was using light bulbs instead of LEDs.

I have chosen light bulbs because they require only 1.5 V, not 2 V that LEDs need.

Step 3: Testing

Insert the AA battery:
